Lima is a great place to visit with much to see and do. It’s an excellent vacation destination to explore the history and culture of the area, but there’s also the modern element you’ll want to explore. In fact, let’s look at some of the fun things you can do in Lima.
The Pachacamac Ruins
Just south of Lima about 30 km, you’ll discover the Pachacamac Ruins just off the Pan American highway. You’ll discover two pyramids, one temple, and tons of ancient Inca ruins that date back thousands of years. Many tourists are not aware of the ruins and so they miss this great opportunity.
If you’ve ever thought about jumping off a cliff, here’s your perfect opportunity. Walk down to the Miraflores cliffs and you’ll be able to watch other paragliders. If you want to paraglide, you can ride tandem for just $55 USD.
Take a Tour of the Catacombs
Right in the heart of Lima, you will find the Monesterio de San Francisco or Saint Francis Monastery. This small monastery and church are beautiful, but it’s what’s underneath that’s really interesting. Hundreds of people are buried in the catacombs. You’ll see bones that are stacked over 4 meters high and the monks have arranged them in patterns. Very neat to see!
Climb to the top of Huaca Pucillana Pyramid
Right in the middle of the City of Lima, you’ll find that Huaca Pucllana pyramid. This ancient pyramid dates back to around 400 AD and is made of thousands upon thousands of adobe bricks. It will take still another 20 years to complete its excavation, which began back in the 1980’s. This is a site you won’t want to miss.
There are all kinds of fun things to see and do in Lima, make sure you take the time to explore.
